Helping a parent

Helping a parent with Medicare, step by step.

Many of the people we help are supported by a son or daughter who does the research and makes the phone calls. We are glad to work with you both. We explain things in plain words, and your parent stays in charge of every decision.

Medicare rules require your parent's permission before we can talk about their plans. The easiest way is for your parent to join the call or visit, even for a few minutes.

Who this is for

  • You are helping a parent who is new to Medicare, or who would like a plan review.
  • Your parent finds the paperwork and the phone calls hard to manage.
  • You live far away and want to be part of the conversation.

What we do for you

  • We meet with your parent, with you joining in person, by phone or on Zoom.
  • We go through doctors, prescriptions and costs together, and explain each option in plain words.
  • Your parent makes the decisions. We make sure you both understand them.
  • We stay available afterwards for questions and for yearly reviews.

What to bring to your visit

  • Your parent's Medicare card and any plan cards
  • A list of your parent's doctors and the pharmacy they use
  • A list of their prescriptions: the name and the dose
  • Any letters or notices they have received
